Abu Simbil Temples

Image
Woke up at 3:30 for a 4 hour drive to the high dam at the border with Sudan.  We went in a convoy of tour buses with armed guards.  High drama but worth the effort.... truly amazing. Inside the Rames the second temple. The Outside entrance to the temple. This entire site was relocated when its original site was flooded after the dam was built. Relocated 65 m higher. One of the many giant carvings on the walls in the temple. Rames the second slaying his enemies.

The Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx

Image
A great day visiting the Giza pyramids, sphinx, and the old Egyptian Musuem. The new museum isnt fully open yet.      Amazing to see .... the pyramids were constructed 4500 years ago and the size of the stones and construction is mind boggling.       Now for cheesy photos...

Giza, Egypt

Went to the Giza today, pyramids and sphinx. Then to the old Egyptian museum. Taking the overnight train to Aswan tonight, a 12 hour trip, hopefully with some sleep.

Cairo, Egypt

Arrived in Cairo late last night, drive from airport to hotel was like a bad Nascar race. El-Tahrir square near our hotel. Meet with others on tour tonight then off to pyramids tomorrow and then overnight train to Aswan. Got a bit of Egyptian spending money for the travels ahead. Makes me feel so rich!

Imlil, Morocco

Hiked in to our guesthouse in Imlil last night. There are roads but tourists aren't allowed to be driven in to the town. We had to dodge marauding donkeys on the walk. Mount Toubkal was our view, the highest mountain in Northern Africa at 4167 metres.

Sahara Dessert

Beautiful oasis hotel in Merizouga. Camel ride to the dunes to view the sunset.
